A quick reference guide to antibiotic use in the emergency department. Organized alphabetically (and color-coded) by organ system followed by special topics, to make finding disease processes quick and easy. Thanks to the helpful comments received about the 2009 guide, the 2011 guide now features slightly larger text for readability, and a cost/pregnancy/lactation guide.

2011 EMRA Antibiotic Guide 9781929854196 Medicine Health Science Books

I mean hot full of quick hard facts about all the infections your gonna meet in my ER. Some heavyweights come in early (2am) and often. So you get to know you ABX drug of choice pretty well of things like peritonitis, cholangitis, meningitis, cellulitis, NH pneumonia.

But what's new with those weird things that don't come around often enough to be carved into your cerebrum? Like neo fever, botulism, human bites, mastoiditis, immune compromised infections, HIV hepatitis.

Keep this little pocket book handy and you'll learn quick enough to stay afloat down here. The Sanford guide is a complicated dinosaur, the pharmacopeia is too dinky. Pull those rags out during morning rounds and you'll be eating them for breakfast. If we have time.

What I'm getting at; this is the book for ER ID rounds. . . . Ok sure it doesn't have the newest doc for c. Diff (Dificid) or Teflaro or Xerese. But any med book is already outdated the day it's printed. Anyway stay away from that new stuff till it's been tested on the human heard by our learned ID colleagues upstairs.

Ok, get some sleep. Bring your Ritalin. And don't you dare be late. The unit secretary will literally shoot you, then I'll have to sew you up.

And don't lean on them walls, you are doctors now, not scarecrows!!

2011 EMRA Antibiotic Guide 9781929854196 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews

I purchased this book for my new position in an Urgent Care Clinic. Its a very handy quick glance type of book. I find it extremely helpful in cases where a patient is allergic to the class of antibiotic I would typically give. Small enough to put in your pocket but also comprehensive.
Excellent text, well laid out, makes the information easy to find and given the pocket size of the work this information can always be at your finger tips.
Easy to use, reliable information.
Use this all the time. Great resource on the go.
Pocket size and factual. Highly recommend this to all practitioners. A great resource to always have on hand for optimal prescribing of antibiotics. Highly recommend.
Very good and concise review of regimens for various infectious conditions. Also provides alternatives for allergies and inpatient vs outpatient therapy. Much easier to use than Sanford guide and up to date information.
This book is really priceless. This is the third edition I have purchased, and I will continue to do so. It is so much easier to read than Sanford's. I did notice that the paper in the 2011 edition was thinner than in the past editions. Other than that, I have no complaints!
